April 14, 2020

DevOps 2020 will be streamed live on April 21 and 22.

What are the specific features of this event? What can we expect? Our Technical Evangelist, Jordan Assouline, answers these questions in this interview.

Why is this event a must-attend for Squad?

For some time now, Squad has decided to shift towards DevOps and DevSecOps. That's why all events dedicated to this culture are of interest to Squad.

Due to the Covid-19 health crisis, DevOps 2020 has decided to open its live conferences and live streams to everyone, free of charge. This makes it easy to attend presentations given by major companies and key players in the sector, including Kohsuke Kawaguchi (creator of Jenkins), Andres Prins (Vice President of Product Strategy at XebiaLabs), Abdelfettah Sghiouar ( Google Cloud Strategy Engineer ), and Adrian Hornsby (DevOps Evangelist at Amazon Web Services).

We will see how DevOps and DevSecOps are implemented among these speakers' clients, and learn about the methods and strategies they use. Squad will then be able to use these ideas and feedback to accelerate its own transformation, both in terms of the services it offers its clients and its own DevOps Factory.

Why do Squad consultants and employees need to register?

DevOps is not just about technology. It is a culture that involves breaking down silos, particularly between Dev and Ops, which exist in many companies today.

DevOps 2020 will therefore feature technical presentations, as well as business and methodological presentations, with developers, decision-makers, designers, and testing and QA (Quality Assurance) specialists.

In terms of speakers, topics covered, and technical expertise, all consultants will be able to find a session that resonates with their own specialty or that reminds them of situations they may have encountered in their professional experience.

In the consultant career path we have established at Squad, we felt it was imperative to enable our employees to keep up with IT trends in order to avoid the obsolescence that threatens every IT expert, given the rapid pace at which technologies and methods have evolved over the past 10 years. Participation in major events such as DevOps 2020 is part of this commitment, with the idea of comparing our own vision with that of other experts from companies and geographical regions different from our own.

In your opinion, what are the upcoming trends? Is COVID-19 having an impact?

It is always difficult to predict the next trends that will impact the world of IT, and DevOps in particular. By definition, this culture is constantly changing and was created by and for industry players. When their needs evolve, DevOps evolves with them.

Most service and product providers have been working for some time to provide comprehensive and complex DevSecOps platforms. The goal is to offer a single interface connected to several tools to facilitate the management of this DevOps toolchain, including Gitlab and Jfrog.

All players now support security aspects in the toolchain used by DevOps teams. In fact, these aspects are integrated into automated testing, reducing potential errors as well as "human" intervention. The business will also evolve towards orchestration, rather than the pure implementation of new solutions.

There is therefore a trend towards "unifying" the various tools into a single solution that will make it easier to industrialize the DevOps Factories that are being created today.
