Companies are making remote work the norm

At a time when employees are embracing working from home, organizations are making remote working the norm. That's why Squad is rolling out its expertise across France. Here's how it works.

Teleworking is a powerful tool for improving employees' quality of life and performance. Recent events have shown that employees are just as productive when working from home. Gone are the days of endless commutes between home and work, and accumulated fatigue. Working from home is on the rise, and not just for employees.

Teleworking: a new norm?

For businesses, remote working allows them to drastically reduce real estate costs while maintaining a high level of activity . Before lockdown, the actual occupancy rate[1] of buildings was in free fall, but with the rise of nomadic working, this rate was estimated at 40% in the Paris region. This figure has certainly fallen since the health crisis, as nearly 2 million employees in France were teleworking according to the statistics department of the Ministry of Labor.

Companies such as PSA have opted for this working method, which is considered more "agile." It should be noted that real estate is thesecond largest cost item for companies, and promoting remote working is a real economic strategy, particularly in this sector, which has been severely impacted by the health crisis.

Internationally, giants such as Twitter, Facebook, and Shopify have also made this shift, either for an indefinite period or until 2021.

Upwork, a recruitment platform, positions itself as a pioneer of the "remote-first" model and is rolling it out to all its employees.

In short, remote working is becoming part of the DNA of certain companies, which also helps them attract talent.

End of real estate costs: they are closing the doors of their offices

They haven't gone bankrupt, yet some companies are closing down. Why? They realize the savings they will make without this expense. For the Sapiens Institute, that's €50,000 saved per year, the equivalent of an annual salary.

So how can we compensate for this social "deficit"? Companies are choosing coworking spaces on an ad hoc basis for meetings or corporate seminars. We are therefore witnessing a shift in working norms.

Network administrators and cybersecurity professionals are increasingly in demand, particularly with the use of new tools such as the cloud and messaging software (Zoom, Teams, Slack, etc.). Companies are making data exchanges more secure, and employee requests have multiplied.

Squad adapts to these standards

Remote working poses greater risks for businesses and is a real boon for hackers. While some companies are embracing this shift to attract new talent and enhance their brand image, they still need to have the necessary infrastructure in place.

Raising awareness of information security, securing workstations, and implementing encryption tools are all measures that can be taken to limit threats.Protecting the most sensitive data is a real challenge, and a moment of inattention by an employee can be costly: an average of €3.85 million for a French company, according to IBM Security.

That's why Squad also educates its teams about data protection and best practices for remote working. In fact, a study by CyberArk shows that more than three-quarters of French employees working remotely use unsecured personal devices to access company systems.

During lockdown, our DevOps and Cybersecurity Experts demonstrated their ability to work effectively remotely. Ludovic R. and Jonas D., Squad experts in cybersecurity, worked without difficulty thanks to the implementation of tools such as Discord and VPN. For Ludovic, organizing his work is essential, so he sets himself daily goals and schedules.

In France, more than 300 sensitive companies are required to use qualified services, and there are only around 50 PASSI-qualified providers, including Squad. Thanks to this qualification and ISO:27001 certification, Squad and its 250 cybersecurity experts meet the highest standards in IT security.

Digitization and data exchange are forcing companies to become more cyber-secure.The risk of a new pandemic and cybersecurity threats require them to be more agile and resilient.
