Guillaume C. is one of the longest-standing members of the Squad#Family! In this interview, he looks back on his career and training!
Can you introduce yourself?
I joined Squad in 2014, so I've been with Squad Toulouse for over six years now. I'm one of the longest-serving members.
I started my first assignment at a major aerospace company. I worked on application security issues, particularly McAfee Application Control and McAfee HIPS tools, for two years.
Then I joined a team working on cloud computing and virtualization. This project was based on OpenStack and Juniper Contrail technologies. I also worked with VMware NSX-T on this project for six months.
Since January, I have been on a short assignment, working on DevOps automation on the network side using Cisco ACI. In September, I joined a team to be the technical lead on the Illumio product, which enables segmentation.
I am also Product Owner of an automation portal that will enable operators to request the opening of flows. The goal is to fully automate the process.
For your first assignment, what certification did you obtain?
My first training course was on ITIL V3, for ITIL certification. I had very little knowledge of the ITIL process and the management of configurations, assets, changes, etc. It gave me a comprehensive understanding of the methods applied at my client's site.
I changed my working methods to adapt to all these processes. My manager suggested this training course to me, several people were enthusiastic about it, so I went along. It is a one-week certification course.
At Squad Toulouse, we've all been through it. This training has been very useful to me in the professional world.
Have you taken another training course recently?
The third training course took place during the first lockdown and focused on the Illumio product. My manager suggested that I take the course because I had already worked on micro-segmentation. We had a week of training with other people. The trainer was American and had to adapt to our schedule.
He worked from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. I was able to get a first look at the product. It's a very popular software program in the banking sector. In fact, Squad is partnered withIllumio.
It was a certification course, and we all passed. Today, I apply what I learned in my job, and I am a technical advisor.
So, if someone has a question about using the product, such as the best solutions that can be deployed on the infrastructure or the best technical solutions that can be applied to that product, I am the point of contact for answering those questions.
Have you ever taught yourself something?
Between assignments, I decided to train on AWS (Certified Solutions Architect). I was going to take the certification exam in March, but the training centers had to close. I didn't resume the certification process, as a new version had been released. I had completed the entire process to obtain the certification.
Nevertheless, it sometimes helps me in my work, because we use this technology. It's interesting to teach ourselves about technologies that we like and to expand our expertise.
